Lesson 1: Welcome to Module three Copy

What types of information can epidemiology provide?

In this module, we give a brief assessment of the strengths and limitations of the different epidemiological study designs. We discuss how to use studies to address specific research issues such as the causes and burden of disease or the efficacy of treatments and preventive measures.

To complete the session and the course, we give a broad overview of the key elements of research:

  • Asking the right research questions
  • Selecting the correct study methodology for the research question
  • Understand the importance of sampling
  • Looking closely at bias and confounding.

These key topics will be explored in more depth in the modules that follow. As you go through the steps consider closely the role of epidemiological evidence in your own daily clinical practice.
